In 1993, I accepted a three year marketing job in Hawaii, but I arrived in Oahu in bad shape. I was limping, having had just had a serious operation on my foot and my face looked terrible with a severe case of rosacea. My nose had swollen and was bright red as were my cheeks and forehead. Ugly white postules covered my nose and cheeks. I wondered what kind of an impression I was going to make on my new employer. He was not happy with my appearance, but he decided to try to ignore my bandaged foot and swollen red face.

I had suffered from rosacea for years, but my mainland US dermatologists were unable to do anything to eliminate the redness and swelling, even after several expensive and useless treatments. The medics told me I had an incurable skin disease and I should learn to ”live with it.”

Back to Tamanu Oil. I did considerable research about the oil and learned how it is venerated, protected and used by Polynesians. The oil comes from small nuts that are found inside of fruits that grow on Tamanu trees that flourish on many Polynesian islands in the Pacific region. The small nuts are sun-dried for two months and then cold-pressed to obtain a drop or two of oil per kernel. Centuries ago, Polynesians discovered many uses for the fruit, leaves and roots of the noni tree. The leaves were used as an aid for burns, sunburn, small wounds, etc. The leaves were heated and applied directly to the skin problem area. The method was immediately helpful and the natives loved it.

Centuries ago, the Polynesians had to find ways to improve and preserve their health by finding and using the benefits they discovered in their natural pharmacy, native plants and herbs. They had no doctors or pharmacies in those times and were forced to find and test the plants they found growing on the islands. One of their most urgent needs was to find a way to protect and heal their skin as the salt-laden winds, the high ambient temperature, and injuries damaged their skin.
